Aquatint engraving of the Devon town of Exeter (spellt Exester on this print), taken from the book 'Travels of Cosmo III Grand Duke of Tuscany Through England During the Reign of King Charles II 1669' by Lorenzo Magalotti, and published by J Mawman in 1821. The illustrations for the book were copied from Cosmo III's journals of his travels, housed in the Laurentian Library, Florence. The original drawings were by Thoma Hosmer Shepherd. The image shows a small but substantial town, as Exeter would have been in 1669, with the Cathedral and St Sidwell's Church in the middle. It measures 11.5'' by 9.5''.
