1 vols. 8vo. Zustand: Orange wrappers. A fine copy. Uncorrected Proof for Limited Distribution. 1 vols. 8vo. Alice B. Sheldon (1915-1987) wrote under the male pseudonym of James Tiptree, Jr., and her stories, including "The Last Flight of Doctor Ain" (1969), "And I Awoke and Found Me Here on the Cold Hill's Side" (1972), and "The Women Men Don't See" (1973), blazed across the sky for a decade beginning in the late 1960s. Tiptree was not the first mask she wore in a career than encompassed military service in the second world war and a stint in Langley; her mother Mary Hastings Bradley wrote about her as Alice in Jungleland in 1927. Sheldon's identity as Tiptree was disclosed in 1977. David G. Hartwell was her editor and one of a very small number of persons from the science fiction community who met Sheldon. Inscribed, with characteristic wit and diffidence, "To Dave Hartwell, In memory of that delicious night in Dominica, and for whom I shall someday write a good novel. Tip/ Alli" [With:] autograph note, signed, dated 1 October 1977 on a 3 x 5 inch index card embossed with her McLean, Virginia, address. The author's first novel and a 1979 nominee for the Hugo award. Books signed by Tiptree are RARE. Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-1136 Uncorrected Proof for Limited Distribution. Signed.
