This shows rapid development. The number of buses laid on for Hajjis for example, increased from 647 for 5 million pilgrims in 1980, to 989 for 9.4 million in 1981 alone. In Mecca, construction of the Internal Ring Road, Middle Ring Road, Ajyad-Kudi Underpath, and the Makkah-Alkar Vast Road bypassing the sacred Mash'air area were either completed or well advanced.
