A presentation copy of this account of the letters of the Mayor and city of London between 1350 and 1370, with a signed letter from archivist Sir William Hardy. A presentation copy of this first edition, with a bookplate reading 'Presentation Copy' to the front pastedown, and with a letter signed by archivist Sir William Hardy tipped in to the front free endpaper. Hardy held the post of deputy record-keeper at the Public Record Office for eight years, and was placed on the Historical Manuscripts Commission on 12 July 1878. The letter, on the stationary of Guildhall Library, is dated July 1885, and addressed 'Dear Sir'. It reads 'in the name of the Library Committee of the Corporation of the City of London, I have much pleasure in asking your acceptance of the enclosed volume'. The letter is signed by a further individual, George Shaw.A fascinating account of the letters of the Mayor and city of London between 1350 and 1370.With the stamp and inscription of Derek Keene to the front free endpaper. Keene was a prominent English urban historian, who brought together history, archaeology and geography to investigate how people in the past experienced life in cities such as London.
