Contemporary dark auburn cloth backed boards, very lightly rubbed, title in gilt on the upper cover. Dark grey endpapers. A very good copy of a rare book. Shanks, Henry ( 1829 - 1881 ) also known as " the Blind Poet of the Deans " was born near Bathgate in Scotland. Educated at the Bathgate Academy, and apprenticed as a Drysalter, he started to become blind in 1862. The book offered here is his his first published book, although he did contribute poetry to the Poet's Corner in the Airdrie Advertiser a little earlier.
