Paperback. Zustand: Fine. Third Printing (Revised). 180 pages. Author's signature and inscription to Jim Munro, of Munro's Books, Victoria, upon front flyleaf. The graphic recollections of a Japanese prisoner of war during World War II. "Richard Sewell writes very well, the major publishing houses to which he sent the manuscript said so, but they were very sorry to have to say 'no' and pass it by - 'because it might possibly offend the Japanese, who are now, after all, our (business) friends and allies. Tackles squarely the question of why and how such systematic, deliberate, and intense cruelty was endemic in the Japanes treatment of prisoners of war. While the author dissects the nature of human cruelty, at the same time he also shows us the other side of the coin - the remarkable care and love people show to each other in the worst of all possible conditions. That is why this is an uplifting story, one not just of survival, but of the triumph of goodness." - from Foreward by Bishop Robert C. Crawley SSC. Clean and bright with minimal wear. Excellent copy.
