Taxonomic research on Indian hoverflies has flourished over the past few decades with numerous species being synonymized, changes being made at species, generic, tribe and subfamily levels, several species discovered, and may species were newly recorded, which produces a need for updating Indian syrphid taxon list. To provide comprehensive data on hoverflies across the country, the authors have systematically catalogued Indian hoverflies with detailed information on type, species, synonymies and distributional data from relevant literature. A total of 369 species in 79 genera under 4 subfamilies are listed in the present work, including 3 unconfirmed species records, which makes the Indian Syrphid taxon list to comprise 366 species in 77 genera under 13 tribes and 4 subfamilies. For the first time, a consolidated study has been done on the current taxonomic status of pollinating hoverflies from the Himalayan landscape across the state of Himachal Pradesh. This is the first-ever consolidated report on hoverflies from the classified agro-climatic zones of the state enumerating 119 species under 46 genera 12 tribe over 3 subfamilies. Revised taxonomic characters, updated genera and sub-genera status, annotated photographic identification key for all of the species as well as photo plates of all the species along with their distribution map have been introduced in this research work which was not available before. The current study includes description of a first time report of a species from Oriental region, and also report of a new genus from India. Moreover, this study includes first time report of 2 species from India. Further, 18 species have been recorded for the first time from the state of Himachal Pradesh during study time by authors. 2 species have been also describes as new to science. Overall hopefully this effort will catalyse the better and easy identification and conservation of hoverflies along this Himalayan state.…

Men are generally assigned jobs that require more physical work while the 'less' strenuous job is allocated to the females. However, the gender dimension of labor process in the service sector in India has remained relatively unexplored. There are certain activities in the service sector where females are more suitable than males. The service sector activities are usually divided into OAE and Establishments. In this work, an attempt has been made to segregate the productivity of females compared to that of males on the basis of both partial and complete separability models. An estimate has also been made of the female labor supply function. The results present a downward trend for female participation both in Own Account Enterprises (OAE) and Establishment. The higher the female shadow wage the lower their supply. This lends support to the supposition that female labor participation is a type of distress supply rather than a positive indicator of women's empowerment. Analysis of the National Sample Service Organization data indicates that in all the sectors women are generally paid less than men. A micro-econometric study reveals that even in firms that employ solely female labor, incidence of full-time labor is deplorably poor. It is this feature that results in women workers' lower earnings and their deprivation.…
