Reliure de l'époque à la fanfare veau vert-amande, dos à nerfs encadrés de fers dorés, plats ornés, tranches dorées, fermoirs en métal doré, 1 ff., 260 pp. erreurs de pagination : page 48 au lieu de 47 qui manque ainsi et page 223 qui apparaît deux fois, texte agrémenté, à la manière des manuscrits calligraphiés pour Versailles, d'une profusion de lettrines, bandeaux, fleurs et animaux, petits paysages et traits de calligraphie pure. La perfection de la gravure le dispute à l'élégance du dessin virtuose. Premier mors légèrement fendillé, intérieur frais. L'ouvrage est protégé par une housse moderne en chamoisine. Les Heures nouvelles ont été réimprimées à plusieurs reprises : le titre portant la dédicace à Madame la Dauphine indique la première édition. Beautiful, wholly engraved calligraphic book of hours originally dedicated to Marie Anne Christine Victoire de Bavière (1660-1690), dauphine of France from 1680 to her death in 1690, in a luxurious contemporary binding. The text is calligraphed in a beautiful and very regular pointed-pen hand (the style that Senault in his writing manuals called an Italian bastarde) and decorated with landscapes, flowers and fruits, divine symbols, beautiful calligraphic designs of birds, a cross, human faces, mermaids, pen flourishes, words in decorative titling capitals and more than 100 richly decorated initial letters of various sizes. Many initials and head-pieces include little landscapes, others are decorated with flowers. The frontispiece and plates show portraits of saints and biblical scenes.The great Paris writing master and engraver Louis Senault (1630-1680?) published several writing manuals, engraving them himself. He calligraphed and engraved the present book of hours, which went through at least four and possibly more printings, all from the same copper plates (except that the plate for the title-page was replaced between the first and second printings). Senault succeeded in preserving in his engraved books the full flavour of a contemporary manuscript, celebrating the exuberance of baroque decorative lettering.With the armorial bookplates of Mr. de Badts de Cugnac with a marquess's crown and of Richard de Loménie with a count's crown. A Paris, chez l'autheur rue Debussy à la Croix Blanche au Fauxbourg St. Germain, [c. 1680], in-8, pregiata legatura coeva in pieno marocchino nero decorata in oro, piatti inquadrati da due cornici concentriche a triplo filo con singoli ferri fitomorfi impressi negli angoli fra le cornici (decorazione impropriamente detta "à la Du Seuil"), dorso a 5 nervi con ricchi fregi fitomorfi impressi in oro a piccoli ferri negli scomparti, dentelles interne, sguardie in carta marmorizzata, tagli dorati, pp. [4], 260. Con due errori di paginazione. Prima edizione, prima tiratura, di questo bel libro d'ore, uno dei capolavori della calligrafia francese interamente composto ed inciso in rame (testo e ricco corredo decorativo: ghirlande floreali, disegni a svolazzi, lettere decorate) da Louis Senault. La prima tiratura è caratterizzata dalla dedica a Madame La Dauphine e dal fatto che le due naiadi nella testata della p. 210 presentano il seno nudo, cosa che fu giudicata sconveniente per un libro di preghiere e fu censurata nelle riedizioni successive. Firma di possesso di Jean-Jules-Athanase Bobin (1834-1905), bibliofilo ed erudito, amico di Huysmans, al verso della prima carta di guardia. Un solo esemplare di questa edizione presente in ICCU (alla Biblioteca Reale di Torino). Lievi restauri alle legatura ma bell'esemplare.…
