This is a first edition of the first extended study of the writings of D. H. Lawrence. Herbert Jacob Seligmann (1891-1984), was a writer and civil rights activist. Seligmann published books and contributed to many newspapers and magazines. He wrote on the civil rights of African-Americans, and the rise of Nazism, book reviews and articles about artists, including John Marin and Georgia O'Keeffe. Between 1914 and 1941, after his graduation from Harvard University, Mr. Seligmann worked for The New Republic, The New York Evening Post, The New York Globe and The New York Tribune. He wrote ''The Negro Faces America'' and ''Race Against Man,'' among other books, and two volumes of poetry and essays. . The volume is in almost perfect condition except for a couple of shadows where newspaper clippings were stored; otherwise unmarked, tight, square and clean. The unclipped dust jacket, now in Mylar, is chipped and separated at the hinges with some loss on the spine and rear panel. NEAR FINE/POOR. . 12mo 7" - 7½" tall. 77 pp.
