Kunst / Grafik / Poster Erstausgabe
No Binding. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. A Finnish cinema poster for the 1924 silent-movie Leatherstocking, based on the novel by James Fenimore Cooper. The poster is actually for a double bill, including the 11-reel feature The Leather Pushers starring Reginald Denny (1923). The main feature premiered in Helsinki on December 3rd, 1924 and this poster is for the screening that took place at the Lyyra Cinema, Helsinki, from 19th January to the 26th January, 1925. Cinema posters in this era were normally commissioned by cinemas themselves, in this instance the Lyyra (established 1915). Measures approximately 15 x 21.5 inches. In bold titles at the lower half of the poster it reads (in Finnish and Swedish), "Leatherstocking is one of those rare serial films that have been shown to full houses for 2 weeks in a row in different theatres in Helsinki". At the bottom, again in bold type, is written, "A fascinating 2-hour program. Regular prices!" Condition: Prominent centre-fold with one small hole near left edge and what appears to be a scissor-cut at right edge. There is a further 1/2 inch split to the paper at the centre-fold which may not be visible in the accompanying image - and a tiny second split at middle. Half-inch nick to left edge near bottom. Two trivial nicks to top edge Bottom right corner dog-eared. There are further folding lines above and below the middle but they are not prominent. Creasing around the centre-fold at left edge which may indicate use of a clamp of some kind to mount the poster. The paper is lightly browned or tanned but not horribly so. Not in perfect condition but the paper quality is similar to news-print of the era, i.e. a page from a contemporary newspaper. It is quite remarkable that it has lasted so long and well. Even with the above faults it is in outstanding condition for a very thin sheet of paper almost 100 years old, quite incredible. No staining or finger marks etc. For film historians and movie-poster collectors alike, a very rare treasure of movie memorabilia.
