Calavas Editeur, Paris, 1902 - In-folio, chemise cartonnée bleue de l'éditeur, illustrée et titrée, dos toilé, fermeture à lacets, contenant 21 planches de la série "Les fleurs et leurs applications décoratives" par Emile Allain Séguy, numérotées de 40 à 60 (sur un total de 60 publi…ées) : Laurier rose + Pin - Arrum + Sagittaire - Magnolia + Pois - Cardère + Datura - Passiflore + Millet - Amarante + Hortensia - Glycine + Vigne. Chaque sujet est traité en trois planches finement aquarellées, la première à la manière naturaliste, suivie de deux planches façon art-déco / art nouveau. Ensemble en bon état, la chemise présente de très légères traces d'usage ou du temps, les planches sont propres et fraîches (peuvent parfois porter une très légère ombre sur un ou deux millimères en bordure et de très légères traces d'usage), les couleurs sont restées vives. Ombre au dos de la première et de la dernière planche (contact avec la chemise). Absolument magnifique . Séguy, Emile Allain (illustrator).

Contemporary brown morocco over marbled boards, spine with raised bands and gilt lettering, compartments stamped with scarab device, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. 20 magnificent pochoir illustrations. Light shelf-wear to binding, thirteen of the plates sometime excised from the binding by a… previous owner, but now neatly re-inserted. All fresh and clean. A suite of twenty plates, each with a dazzling composition of five different insects, as indicated on table of plates. "The depictions of insects in the illustrations are remarkably detailed, revealing Séguy's unique interest in their scientific study as a source of inspiration fro artistic creation." (Metropolitan). Each plate features five naturalistic illustrations of different species. The plates were likely meant to inspire designs for textiles and wallpapers. The French illustrator Émile-Allain Séguy, known as E.A. Séguy, was one of the most important exponents of the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements of the 1920s. His work inspired a generation of artists throughout Europe. Séguy produced eleven albums of nature themed illustrations and patterns, drawing inspiration from papillons (butterflies) and other insects, flowers, foliage, crystals and animals. Séguy was one of few artists that successfully combined both Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles in his work. Séguy's popular papillon and insect books had many people confuse him with the entomologist Eugène Séguy, who held a chair of entomology at the "Museum national d'histoire naturelle" from 1956 to 1960.

Often confused with the French entomologist Eugene Séguy who was active during the same time period, E.A. Portefeuille demi-toilé à décor de fleurs, plat supérieur portant titre imprimé sur une étiquette. Mors usé avec déchirures, deux attaches endommagées, d…échirure à la planche 7 sans atteinte au motif, brunissures et légers plis de consultations en marge des planches sinon couleurs éclatantes. Emile Allain Seguy a étudié à l'Ecole des Arts décoratifs de Paris et a exposé au Salon des artistes français en 1898 ses premières oeuvres. C'est après la Première Guerre mondiale qu'il explore les motifs ornementaux destinés aux industriels et créateurs textiles, tapis et papiers peints dans un style Art Déco.
