A major difference between this dictionary and other similar dictionaries of artists is that this dictionary's main focus is on commercial sales and prices realized year by year for each artist. According to the title page, it contains 8,850 notes on sales and 980 original notes on the subjects and styles of various artists who have painted in the schools of Europe between 1250 and 1850. This includes both famous and obscure painters. Prices are stated in British pounds and provide interesting chronological evidence of changes in prices realized over approximately a century. Ex Library with small stamp to title page. Small quarto. Modern black binding with gilt title to spine. Pages are slightly yellowed, but clean and clear. 241 pages. Art/ Painting. ART/6072.
