The surviving parts of the whole collection can still be seen in a museum dedicated to Cabinets of Curiosities in St. Petersburg, Russia, known as the Kunstkamera. Mas, em uma perspectiva de educação comparada, com a qual trabalhamos neste livro, trata-se de entender o outro a partir dele mesmo e, ao mesmo tempo, perceber-se na diferença (CIAVATTA FRANCO, 1992, p. 14). Foi com essa perspectiva de conhecer o outro e nele se (re)conhecer, que organizamos uma proposta de cooperação entre o Núcleo de PolÃticas Educacionais da Universidade Federal do Paraná (NuPE/UFPR) e o Instituto de Investigacià n y Desarrollo Educacional da Universidad de Talca, Chile (IIDE-UTalca). A proposta de trabalho apontava para um estudo comparado (Brasil e Chile), em especial em perÃodos quando a polÃtica rompe fronteiras e padroniza diretrizes, objetivos e ações dos governos dos diferentes paÃses. Entender, por exemplo, como e porque a polÃtica de financiamento da educação no Chile apresenta/apresentou os resultados tais e quais, ou ainda a nova institucionalidade desenhada para a educação naquele paÃs, parecia (e ainda parece!) ser fundamental para se compreender os desdobramentos das polÃticas educacionais em toda a região da Amà rica Latina e no Brasil, em particular. Em razão disso, o intento do trabalho foi o de contribuir com a ampliação do conhecimento sobre as polÃticas de educação nessa região do mundo, tomando como referência nenhum sentimento de superioridade de qualquer um dos paÃses, cujos contextos sempre precisam ser considerados, uma vez que o reconhecimento das diferenças não pode levar nunca ao sentimento de superioridade de uma das partes envolvidas.
