Undated, believed to have been published in circa 1885. In full decorative embossed morocco, with a colour vignette, a frontispiece of Scott, and ten other engraved plates by English artist Keeley Halswelle. Collated complete. Contains the frontispiece and signature of wealthy Scottish industrialist James Dick, a world-wide producer of drive-belts along with his brother Robert. The Wizard of the North, Sir Walter Scott remains a celebrated icon within Scotland, with his historical romances having a significant impact upon the trajectory of literature beyond his lifetime. Scott's poetry emphasises the author's standing within Romantic literature, being as popular as Byron during his lifetime. In full decorative embossed morocco. Five very scarce issues of The Illustrated London Almanack, featuring a number of attractive chromolithographs. Collection comprised of five very scarce issues of The Illustrated London Almanack for the years 1860, 1862, 1864, 1875 and 1877. In the publisher's original pictorial soft covers. The 1864 edition is accompanied by the exceedingly scarce original glassine wraps. Each work is extensively illustrated, including with six colour plates by eminent illustrators such as Harrison Weir and the Leighton Brothers and a number of tinted astronomical designs. The 1860 edition is lacking the plate for May and June. All remaining copies are collated, complete. The 1862, 1875 and 1877 issues all contain a variety of contemporary advertisements to the rear. Published annually by The Illustrated London News between 1845 and 1895, these almanacks contain important dates and details for the year, providing stylish and contemporary insight into laws, postal information and a detailled astronomical overview. In the publisher's original pictorial soft covers. The 1864 edition is accompanied by the exceedingly scarce original glassine wraps. Previous owner's annotations to the inside front cover of the 1877 edition. Externally, very smart editions, considering their age, with expected shelf wear, resulting in a number of small tears and chips to the edges and particularly to the spines, leaving the covers a little delicate. Covers are generally discoloured and spotted. Glassine is an especially nice example with only a few tears to the top edge and general toning. Internally, reasonably firmly bound, covers notably weaker. The illustration to page 11 of the 1877 edition has been hand tinted by a previous owner, as had the odd further example.
