Jonathan Carver and built on a predominantly agrarian culture, it boasts one of the richest farmlands in the state. Arrival of the railroads resulted in prosperous new industries and businesses and made it a popular resort destination. In the 1890s, the abundance of dairy farms and creameries earned it the nickname, the "Golden Buckle of the Dairy Belt." Many local farmers such as Andrew Peterson, Wendelin Grimm, and Henry Lyman became nationally recognized for their horticultural contributions and achievements. Hundreds of vintage photographs and postcards that depict everyday life in Carver County through the 1950s were collected and researched.
