Good, on lightly-aged paper, in worn envelope. He informs him that his edition of Plutarch's 'Parallel Lives' was published by Chapman & Hall. 'I hear… that they have lately published a new Edition: but old Mr Chapman the head of the firm is dead, [Edward Chapman (1804-1880)] & since that I have heard nothing of the firm which has now I believe been made into a limited Company.' He ends by saying that he does not know 'Mr Freeman's address' exactly.

Frontispiece, title-page in red and black, 20 pages of preliminaries including the single leaf Preface to the Reader, double pa…ge map, woodcut initials and illustrations in the text, 266, [6] pages, errata to final leaf verso. Two old bookplates to the front paste, the first from William Hamper (12 December 1776 - 3 May 1831), an English businessman, magistrate and antiquary and signed by him to the second front free end paper 'William Hamper 1800', and the second belonging to Walter J. J. Pilgrim, modern records society plate opposite. Rubbing to the high points of the boards, darkening of the text block edges and margins. The Antonine Itinerary (Latin: Itinerarium Antonini Augusti, lit. "The Itinerary of the Emperor Antoninus") is a famous itinerarium, a register of the stations and distances along various roads. Seemingly based on official documents, possibly from a survey carried out under Augustus, it describes the roads of the Roman Empire. Owing to the scarcity of other extant records of this type, it is a valuable historical record. Member of the P.B.F.A. ROMAN EMPIRE (Romanum).

It reads: 'Received the Tenth day of January Anno dni 1643. of my brother John Croke the Sume of one thousand pounds of lawfull money of England wch. sume of one thousand pounds was given…me by my ffather Sr. John Croke late of Chilton in the Contie of Bucks Knight, and for the true paymt. of the said Sume, Cannon Court ffarme in Chilton aforesaid was ingaiged, Now I doe by these presents acknowledge the receipt of the said one thousand pounds and doe thereof acquitt, release and discharge my said brother of the same And doe alsoe, release all interest, claime and right I or my heirs may have or ought to have to the said ffarme In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and year first above written.' In another hand at foot: 'Acknowledged before mee the 15th of May 1656 | Na Hoban'. And to the left of this, in gothic script: 'Inrolled in Chancery the nine day of June in the yeare of our Lord. 1656: | By Thomas '.
