Soft cover. Zustand: Good. Softcover. Glossy red covers, with black lettering. A handwritten title label taped to the spine. There is a small sticker with the number 10,247 written on it, from what we are guessing is an inventory of Lovejoy's collection. Dated 1982 on copyright and title page. 132 pages. Binding strong and tight. Some creasing to the upper corner of the front cover. Pages light toned, but clean and free of marks. Serengeti Research Institute Publication No. 225. Annotated list of the 505 birds seen within the park. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. He died in 2021 and we are very excited to present a selection of his books. Please browse the entire catalogue here on ABE or contact us for instructions on how to get to it. Lovejoy's name is not in this book, but the handwritten title on the spine and the number on the sticker may well be his addition. This book comes with a card stating provenance, with a picture of Lovejoy.

About the book >.>.> The Serengeti National Park, the largest and best known of Tanzania's national parks, covers an area of over 13,000 km? It lies roughly between 34? 45' and 35? 25' East and 2? 20' and 3? 20' South, bordering Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya in the north, Loliondo Game Controlled Area and Ngorongoro Conservation Unit in the east, Maswa Game Reserve in the south and Speke's Gulf, Lake Victoria, in the west. The characteristic features of the park are the short grass and long grass open plains in the south, the acacia savannah in the central area, the hilly, more densely wooded northern section, and the extensive woodland and black clay plains, dominated by the central ranges of mountains in the western corridor (Tanzanian National Park). A general description of the Serengeti can be found in Schaller (1972), Kruuk (1972) and Sinclair (1977). More than 2.5 millions of large mammals, nearly 30 species of ungulates and 13 species of larger carnivores, live in this ecosystem, making it the world's greatest remain-ing co.
