Erstausgabe
Softcover. Zustand: Near Fine. First edition. Illustrated wrappers by Jeff Schlanger. Crease on top corners of pages and wrapper, light offsetting on front wrapper, very good. Inscribed by the cover artist Jeff Schlanger on the front fly to poet and educator Daniel Hoffman with an illustration inside the front wrapper. Additionally, laid in is a typed and Signed letter (dated January 4, 1975) from Schlanger addressed to Mr. Hoffman. An important association copy with this being one of many sent out of Chile to Professors in the hopes of raising awareness of the plight of the people of Chile overrun by a fascist government. In 1973 Schlanger's friend and poet, James Scully had just won a Guggenheim Fellowship to respond to the thriving art scene in Chile, but by the time Scully and his family arrived in Chile the President had committed suicide and fascism had quickly taken over. With the threat of being killed these poems were sent out of Chile in unmarked envelopes (for safety) to Jeff Schlanger, and he in turn distributed them to professors of literature, poets and writers such as Daniel Hoffman, Professor of Literature at Swarthmore College.
