Gesamthaft sauberes, recht gutes Exemplar. - - Barth 19161 - Erstmals 1890 (Barth 19160). - "Das Werk von Kaplan Scherer wurde nach Quellen ergänzt, teilweise umgearbeitet und mit Abbildungen versehen; dem vielfachen Wunsche zu genügen, wurde ein neues Kapitel hinzugefügt, nämlich eine Beschreibung der gegenwärtigen Kirche und die Erklärung der interessanten Deckengemälde. [.] Bei der Beschreibung der Kirche wurde die Broschüre 'Wallfahrtskirchen im Kanton Luzern' von Dr. Prof. [Josef] Zemp sehr oft zu Rate gezogen [.]." (p. III f.). -- Hergiswald : Wallfahrtsort über der Renggbachschlucht am Nordhang des Pilatus, Gem. Kriens LU. Ca. 1489-1516 lebte der Kartäuser-Laienbruder Hans Wagner als Einsiedler im Hergiswald. 1501-1504 erbaute die Stadtluzerner Familie von Wil [Wyl] als Besitzerin des Waldabschnitts die Marienkapelle, die 1620-1622 erweitert wurde. Dank der Förderung der Stadt Luzern und der Kapuziner entwickelte sich Hergiswald im Laufe des 17. Jahrhunderts zu einem wichtigen Wallfahrtsort. 1647 wurde Hergiswald eine eigene Kaplanei, dabei kam es von der Pfarrei Kriens ans Stift Luzern. 1648-49 liess der Kapuziner Ludwig von Wil mit französischem Geld eine Loretokapelle anfügen, 1651 eine Felixkapelle. 1651-1662 umschloss man alles mit einem grösseren Neubau. 1654 verzierte Kaspar Meglinger Decke und Empore mit 323 Emblembildern, die Bezug auf Maria nehmen. Bau, Bild- und Altarausstattung machen Hergiswald zu einem der originellsten Gesamtkunstwerke des schweizerischen Frühbarocks. Waldbrüder lebten bis um 1800 in Hergiswald. Wirtsbetrieb des Sigristen ab dem 17. Jahrhundert, ab Ende 19. Jh. Ausbau zum Kurhaus. Bessere Erschliessung 1791 durch die Hergiswalder Holzbrücke, 1890 durch die Verlegung der Eigentalstrasse.
