Quarter leather. Privately Printed. Printed for Private Circulation. Octavo, original gilt-decorated cloth boards, new leather spine with gilt lettering and gilt rules, new endpapers, b&w frontis. and b&w plates, wood engraved text illus, two folding maps in text (one in colour), and large colour folding map in rear pocket, pp 282. (Note that there is no Preface to this edition: the preface by the author's mother refers to a few copies being allowed to be sold to raise funds for a church organ. It is possible that this is an earlier issue.) Near-fine condition. Published anonymously and for private circulation, but written by Cecil George Savile Foljambe. He joined the Navy in 1861 and served on numerous voyages including HM Gunboat Pioneer (1863), HM Steamer Avon (1863-1864), and HM Colonial Steamer Koheroa (1864). The author sailed on H.M.S. Curacao and visited Australia (Melbourne and Sydney), New Zealand and the South Sea Islands. "Three Years on the Australian Station" includes descriptions of actions in the Waikato War in 1863, and a survey of the Waikato River. The book includes a large folding "Map of the Seat of War in New Zealand in 1863". Foljambe also describes visiting Sydney and Melbourne. He left the Navy in 1870. Complete with folding maps of "Cook's Straits", "Track Chart of the Cruise of H.M.S. Curacao" and "Map of the Seat of War in New Zealand 1863".
