Hardcover. Illustrations by Denny McMains. Small 8vo. Glossy pictorial paper over boards. 282pp, (2pp ads). Numerous partly-colored line drawings, pictorial endpapers. Very good. Almost rates "Near fine," as it's tight and bright, with just the slightest faint edgewear. A lovely reprint edition (#1576) of Harold L. Goodwin's young adult sci-fi novel, first published in 1952 as "Rip Foster Rides the Gray Planet." Superb copy.

In den WarenkorbSoft Card Covers. Zustand: Very Good. Quentine Blake (illustrator). New Edition. 1974. 77pp. B&W illustrations throughout. Original title 'Evangeline, Pigeon of Paris'. "In Paris there are many beautiful statues and churches. And where there are statues and churches, there are always many, many pigeons. Perhaps it is because pigeons think that Notre Dame Cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe and the Hôtel de Ville are dovecotes built especially for them. More likely it is because of all birds, pigeons are the most neighbourly and want to live where humans gather. ? Most of the people of Paris like pigeons too. . They feed them and take pictures of them and sit for hours just watching them. But there are a few Parisians who don't. ? The Chief of Police was walking to his office near Notre Dame. He paused in the square. He glared at the pigeons fluttering around the famous old cathedral. He glared at the pigeons promenading on the pavement. He glared most angrily at the pigeon standing on the head of Adam's statue in front of the cathedral. ? He spoke sharply to a policeman on duty. ? 'There are too many pigeons in Paris,' he said to the policeman. 'They defile the statues and clutter the parks. There must be a thousand pigeons roosting on Notre Dame alone.' ? 'Yes, yes, sir,' agreed the policeman. 'I will try to count them if you wish.' ? 'Don't be such a potato,' growled the Chief. ?. 'We must get rid of the pigeons. Think of some way to do it.' And he walked to his office with a lighter step because he had dumped one of his problems on somebody else. ? But the Chief had been wrong. There must have been at least a thousand and one pigeons who made the old cathedral of Notre Dame their dovecote, because the number didn't come out even. The thousand pigeons had all mates, but there was one lone pigeon left over. She was the one sitting on Adam's head.". Pages browning, otherwise the book is in excellent condition. No inscriptions.
