Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. "There is a City in Dammam - Saudis call it the Sunrise City" (opening statement). A finely produced brochure celebrating delivery of a very early high profile project by future Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri's construction firm Saudi-Oger. Full brown calf gilt-titled with Saudi emblem to the front 25x25cm. Printed on stiff card by Coriandre, Paris. (74)pp comprising mainly colour photos (by Jean Loup Princelle), artist's impressions, site plans, and a full-page location map, with texts in English and Arabic. Covers very good, scuffed at the extremities with light scratches to the panels. Interiors fine. The high production values and focus suggest this was prepared for a limited circle of VIP clients and associates, and is accordingly very rare with no record on Worldcat and Library Hub. In January 1978, Hariri took over the French firm Oger to form Saudi-Oger, and became a dual Saudi-Lebanese citizen. Initially very successful, Saudi-Oger became the preferred firm of Saudi royalty, making Hariri a multi-billionaire. The Saudi Government contracted Saudi-Oger to build a Government Complex in Dammam to complement those in Riyadh and Taif. Saudi-Oger sub-contracted to Rashid Engineering, founded locally in 1973 by Dr Nasser Al Rashid who was Dean of the College of Engineering Sciences and Applied Engineering at KFUPM in Dhahran, and Consultant to King Fahd. Work began on 1 August 1979. The project was delivered fully equipped and furnished in 720 days. The Complex included the Royal Cabinet (grand foyer and salon, state dining room, royal suites, conference room, Mosque, offices); the palaces of the King and Crown Prince, the VIP Guest Residence (with 134 rooms, suites, and villas, banquet hall, coffee shop, etc); staff housing and support facilities. The photos show numerous interior and exterior views of the completed site, Royal Cabinet, VIP Guest Residence, technical and other buildings.

Produced for clients and associates, this is very rare with Worldcat and Library Hub locating 2 copies between them (OCLC 1088540007, 1026484928: University of Exeter, HES-SO). In January 1978, Hariri took over the French firm Oger to form Saudi-Oger, and became a dual Saudi-Lebanese citizen. Initially very successful, Saudi Oger became the preferred firm of Saudi royalty, making Hariri a multi-billionaire. This was published in June 1980, at which time Hariri owned 99% of the shares valued at SR49.5M, with SR7.2bn worth of contracts either completed or in progress (Means and Performance). The already impressive list of projects profiled here, either completed or in progress, include the Taif Massarrah Hotel (Intercontinental), Al Hada Hotel (Sheraton), Al Hada Villas, Medina Hotel in Sultanah (Sheraton), Royal Diwan Offices in Taif (for the King, Crown Prince and Government), Conference Palace in Riyadh, Al Bahah General Hospital (serving Asir Province), the Eastern Province Governmental Complex in Dammam (with royal palaces), King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Conference Palace in Taif, VIP Villas in Taif (with 2 sports centres, ancillary buildings etc), and Official Reception Diwan in Holy Mecca (with grand lounge, grand dining hall, royal offices and suites etc). Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. Brochure celebrating the delivery of a very early project by future Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri's construction firm Saudi-Oger and his associates. Untitled brown cloth 28x28cm in the original gold, black and white illustrated jacket. Undated c1978. (48)pp printed on thick glossy paper comprising colour photos, b/w plans and elevations, with parallel texts in Arabic, English and French. Covers and interiors fine. Jacket good, rubbed to the edges with closed tears. This would have been prepared for clients and associates, and is accordingly very rare with no record on Worldcat and Library Hub. It is one of the very earliest perhaps completed by Saudi-Oger. Hariri had formed it in January 1978 when he took over the French firm Oger, and became a dual Saudi-Lebanese citizen. Initially very successful, Saudi-Oger became the preferred firm of Saudi royalty, making Hariri a multi-billionaire. The Consultant was Rashid Engineering, founded locally in 1973 by Dr Nasser Al Rashid who was Dean of the College of Engineering Sciences and Applied Engineering at KFUPM in Dhahran, and Consultant to King Fahd. Located on the peak of the Sarawat mountain range in Al-Hada near Taif, the Sheraton Group commissioned this hotel for Royalty, Heads of State and VIPs visiting during the especially hot Summer months. The project was owned by the Ministry of Finance to host these events. Construction began on 1 January 1978 and the project was realised in 6 months. Inspired by the Massarrah Intercontinental which had been completed in Taif the previous year, architects Garevski & Kiredjian intended it to be an "architectural monument" apparently springing out of the rocks. It was built with 3 wings leading off a central gilt and marble lobby several storeys high, with 8 tapered floors and a Mosque. It was laid out to protect the independence of the VIP suites from other guests. This work explains the project and its underlying thought processes. Multiple photos show its general exteriors, facade details including of the Mosque, together with elevations; and interior views of the entrance hall, central patio, coffee shop, banqueting suite, a typical bedroom, an Imperial Suite, restaurant, and VIP Lounge, together with floor plans.
