(B&W photographs and diagrams) From the Foreword, by John Osborn Polak: "In the following pages the author illustrates, describes and correlates the development, structures and functions of the human body in such a readable and accurate manner as to be understandable alike by the high-school student and the professonal aspirant who desires to review the fundamentals of the pre-clinical sciences." Per the title page, the book contains "190 original illustrations, mostly from dissections and animated drawings by the author." If you think some of the small illustrations in the book somewhat resemble motion picture film frames, you will not be surprised to learn that Dr. Sarnoff (1886-1961) was a pioneering maker of medical films, who between 1920 and 1924 produced a six-reel set of films with this same title, which was bundled with this book and a set of slides. (The author's Preface explains how the book coordinates with the films, and its text, in fact, is divided into "reels" rather than chapters: "Reel 1 -- the Digestive System," etc. He later produced an even more elaborate set of films: 200 reels depcting 300 opeations, released in 1932 under the title "System of General Surgery in Motion Pictures.").…
