First edition thus of these satirical takes on the unfolding Sino-Japanese War, first published in the North-China Daily News in August and September 1937. Sapajou, the pen name of the Russian émigré Georgii Avksent'ievich Sapojnikoff, was the paper's long-serving cartoonist and a household name in Shanghai. His cartoons are supported by extracts from "In Parenthesis," a humorous column written by the editor, R. T. Peyton-Griffin. Quarto. Illustrations throughout.
