Smartly bound in a smart modern quarter calf binding with paper to the boards, with renewed endpapers, in a custom cloth chemise and cloth slipcase, bound by Eric Sweet in 1992, with his label to the front paste down. Chemise and slipcase are in a fine condition.Illustrated with a woodcut to each fable, done in reproduction of Bewick, in addition to a frontispiece, which is by Charlton Nesbit, who was an apprentice of Bewick. It is likely that Nesbit produced the woodcuts in this work in imitation of his teacher. Collated, complete.The fables of Aesop, here translated and edited by Samuel Croxall, being the sixteenth Croxall edition.Aesop's Fables is a selection of fables, generally attributed to the Ancient Greek storyteller Aesop, who lived around 620 BCE-564 BCE.
