I keep cycling back to books about India and realized that at some point, my acquisitions were from someone who was a Christian Missionary to India. Here's another: "Sam Higginbottom, Farmer- An Autobiography". Born in humble circumstances in England, immigrated to and educated in the United States, he became a Missionary to Allahabad where he founded the Allahabad Agricultural Institute (later the Allahabad University) and spent most of his life trying to help local farmers improved their productivity. It is a very interesting and engaging read, and an eyeopener for anyone interested in Missionary work.and there was a large body of good people who gave their lives to this kind of work. This book will help you to understand what they did. There are a few pages of vintage b&w photos as illustrations. The book was published by Charles Scribner's Sons of New York, dated 1949 and with the Scribner's "A" signifying that it is the First Printing of the First Edition. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket has a good deal of edge wear- small tears and chips but nothing extreme. The hard covers are clean and bright with some minor bumping to the corners and more to the spine tips. Inside, there is an inked gift inscription on the front endpaper but this is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages and few photo plates are clean and bright and without toning or foxing. There is some random and very occasional spots of soiling but nothing significant. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. This bolk is not ex-library or a remainder.…
