large format [33x27cm]. 200 pages + title-page and 4 printed preliminary pages. generally clean internally and written in various good legible hands. the original cloth boards with paper title-label are rather soiled, but sound. with a later protective stiff paper covering, glued at the spine. a good late 19th century First Offi…cer's sailing ship log book, recording a voyage from Cardiff to Acapulco in Mexico, and on to Port Townsend (Washington), Buenos Ayres, Hampton Roads, Baltimore, and finally towards San Francisco. There is good detail about weather conditions, including violent storms around Cape Horn, and notes on the crew, port work, etc. The 'Indiana' was built in Bath in 1876 and enjoyed a long career through to 1925, mainly operating in the Acapulco, San Francisco and the Oregon and Washington trade, and ending her days in the movies having been purchased from the breakers by the De Mille corporation. The printed preliminary pages include instructions for resuscitating the apparently drowned, collision regulations, pilot signals, management of open boats in a surf, etc. [see attached image for further details] [Please see our storefront page for shipping information].

small 4to. 153 pages. good clean condition in a worn and loose binding. a good detailed manuscript log, clearly written, recording a voyage, departing November 1875 from Liverpool, to Calcutta and Rangoon with a cargo of salt, and the return voyage via Port Elizabeth, to London, with a cargo of rice and timber. The Ship's captai…n's wife died during this voyage and was buried at sea. And another voyage to Calcutta from London, with the return voyage finishing in October 1877. 283 days at sea in all, and nearly 50,000 miles sailed. 'Eurydice' was an iron sailing ship, built by the Isle of Man Shipbuilding Company in 1865, and owned at this time by Robert Brown, with London as the port of registry.
