Hardcover. Zustand: near fine. First edition. Quarto (12" x 8-1/2"). x, 347, (3)pp. Red cloth lettered in gilt. Illustrated with photos, architectural drawings and 2 maps. An ex-library book but with minimal rubber stamps on title page & at bottom of text block, otherwise fine. The sixth international colloquium devoted to the Iron Age of Anatolia was convened at Eskisehir, Turkey, between 16-20 August 2004. As for previous such meetings, the ultimate goal of the Eskisehir gathering was to stimulate academic discussion and pique the curiosity of researchers whose interest lie primarily in the first half of the first millennium BC. The exchange of information and ideas was greatly facilitated by tours to sites that formed the perfect backdrop for many discussions and brought into sharper focus the issues raised by some of the papers. In publishing the revised version of the Eskisehir papers, we hope that this volume will serve as a useful survey on a wide range of critical issues - cultural, historical, chronological and geographical - that are currently shaping archaeological discourse on Iron Age Anatolia. Hardcover. Zustand: near fine. First edition. Quarto (12" x 8-1/2"). viii, 655, (3)pp. Red cloth lettered in gilt. Illustrated with numerous photos, drawings and maps. An ex-library book but with minimal rubber stamps on title page & at bottom of text block, otherwise fine. Despite the flurry of research on aspects of Phoenician culture, encompassing their socio-economic developments and the mechanics of their settlement of Mediterranean coastal lands, the fundamental issue of dating Phoenician achievements remains quite fluid. A range of criteria - textual sources, artefact analysis, stratigraphic data, and, increasingly, radiocarbon readings - provide a bewildering and sometimes conflicting picture of Phoenician chronology, which, in many respects, remains tenuous and free-floating. Owing to the nature of Phoenician colonisation, its chronology is often compartmentalised into discrete regional units. This volume brings together a number of essays focusing squarely on the chronology of the Phoenician-Punic world, ranging from the homeland to the western settlements. The essays are written by specialists in their field, who have encapsulated the chronological framework, and the problems therein, for regions touched by Phoenicians interests. A benchmark study, Beyond the Homeland will be of value not only to Phoenician-Punic scholars, but also to those in related fields who need an accessible study (in English) to navigate the chronological complexities of the field. (Publisher) Contents: Introduction. Chronology of the Phoenicians at home and abroad : the nature of the evidence / C. Sagona -- Radiocarbon dating of historical periods / E. Boaretto -- Phoenicia / F.J. Núñez Calvo -- On dating the reigns of Phoenician kings in the Persian Period / J. Elayi -- Tel Dor and the chronology of Phoenician 'pre-colonisation stages' / A. Hardcover. Zustand: near fine. First edition. Quarto (12" x 8-1/2"). vi, (2), 368, (2)pp. Red cloth lettered in gilt. Profusely illustrated with drawings, photos (many in color), archaeological sections & ground plans, and several maps. An ex-library copy with minimal rubber stamps on title page & at bottom of text block, otherwise fine. The papers in this volume, drawn from the international Workshop on Archaeological Ceramics in the Southern Caucasus and Adjacent Areas held at Barnard College, Columbia University, consider archaeological ceramics excavated in Armenia, Azerbaijan (Nakhichevan and nearby areas), Georgia, Iran (western Azerbaijan) and eastern Turkey, areas which shared common cultures in the prehistoric past. They focus on three periods of transition: (a) the Chalcolithic to the Early Bronze Age, the end of the fourth and beginning of the third millennium BCE; (b) the period from the Early Bronze Age to the Middle Bronze Age, approximately the end of the third millennium BCE through the beginning of the second millennium BCE; (c) and the latter part of the second millennium BCE (archaeologically termed Late Bronze/Early Iron Age). Subjects comprise data from new excavations, new questions of old data, innovative technical studies and interactions among these lands and nearby areas such as the ancient Near East and beyond. The many color illustrations serve as an important reference for any scholar or field project dealing with questions of local ceramic sequences and long-distance or regional contact and exchange. In addition, the volume contains important collections of carbon-14 data and extensive bibliographies. (Publisher) Contents: Introduction: A question of nomenclature /; Karen S. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Anzac Battlefield: A Gallipoli Landscape of War and Memory explores the transformation of Gallipoli's landscape in antiquity, during the famed battles of the First World War and in the present day. Drawing on archival, archaeological and cartographic material, this book unearths the deep history of the Gallipoli peninsula, setting the Gallipoli campaign in a broader cultural and historical context. The book presents the results of an original archaeological survey, the research for which was supported by the Australian, New Zealand and Turkish Governments. The survey examines materials from both sides of the battlefield, and sheds new light on the environment in which Anzac and Turkish soldiers endured the conflict. Richly illustrated with both Ottoman and Anzac archival images and maps, as well as original maps and photographs of the landscape and archaeological findings, Anzac Battlefield is an important contribution to our understanding of Gallipoli and its landscape of war and memory. …

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - In The Archaeology of the Caucasus, Antonio Sagona provides the first comprehensive survey of a key area in the Eurasian land mass, from the earliest settlement to the end of the early Iron Age. Examining the bewildering array of cultural complexes found in the region, he draws on both Soviet and post-Soviet investigations and synthesises the vast quantity of diverse and often fragmented evidence across the region's frontiers. Written in an engaging manner that balances material culture and theory, the volume focuses on the most significant sites and cultural traditions. Sagona also highlights the accomplishments of the Caucasian communities and situates them within the broader setting of their neighbours in Anatolia, Iran, and Russia. Sprinkled with new data, much of it published here for the first time, The Archaeology of the Caucasus contains many new photographs, drawings and plans, many of which have not been accessible to Western researchers.…
