C'est un livre de médecin, puisque l'auteur y décrit les circonstances d'apparition d'une migraine et les formes qu'elle peut revêtir. Mais à partir de son expérience, il montre que la migraine, pour être comprise et traitée dans sa totalité, doit être aussi considérée comme un événement d'ordre affectif : il s'agit donc de savoir à quoi elle sert.
