Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book presents an overview of the techniques available today for the removal of fluoride contamination/pollutants/species from water. Also covered are traditionally applied techniques for the removal of fluoride pollutants/species, including oxidation, coagulation-flocculation, and membrane techniques. Recently, progress has been made on the utility of various nanoparticles for the extraction of contaminants from water. Fluoride contamination is affecting water resources quality worldwide as a result of human activities, such as mining and pesticide use. Due to the high risk of fluoride exposure, specific water treatment processes are required to meet more severe water quality standards. A better understanding of currently available processes is necessary to develop economical, efficient, and effective methods for fluoride removal. Fluoride can either be coated, adsorbed using a wide range of both mineral and organic constituents or can be directly rejected by membrane processes, such as reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. Recent developments of submerged hybrid membrane systems, such as membrane bioreactors in wastewater treatment, provide alternative technologies for fluoride treatment.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This book presents an overview of the techniques available today to remove arsenic contamination, pollutants, and species from water. Traditionally applied techniques for removal of arsenic pollutants/species, including oxidation, coagulation-flocculation, and membrane techniques. Furthermore, recent progress has been made on the utility of various nanoparticles for the extraction of contaminated water. Arsenic contamination affects the quality of water resources worldwide as a result of human activities (pesticides and other uses). Due to the insufficiency of water treatment facilities in developing countries, oral exposure to chemical toxicants through drinking water is a health threat. Arsenic is a mobile element with a crustal abundance of 1.8 mg kg-1 and can travel in different components of the environment, including air, soil, and water before entering into its ultimate sink, that is, bottom sediments and sea. Arsenic may enter groundwater from both geogenic and anthropogenic sources and primarily exists in inorganic form as oxy-anions. Groundwater is relatively more vulnerable to arsenic contamination from geothermal inputs, including the weathering and dissolution of arsenic-bearing rocks and minerals. Arsenic mobility is enhanced in subsurface anoxic conditions, making groundwater more vulnerable to arsenic contamination. Ingestion of groundwater-laden arsenic may cause carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health ailments. Chronic oral exposure 50 µg L-1 of arsenic can cause skin lesions, skin cancer, melanosis, hyperkeratosis, hypertension, gangrene, cardiovascular problems, black foot disease, neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, restrictive lung disease, bladder cancer, lung cancer etc.Hence, specific water treatment processes are required to meet anticipated more severe water quality standards. A better understanding of currently available processes is necessary to develop economical, efficient and effective methods for arsenic removal. Arsenic can be coated, adsorbed using a wide range of mineral and organic or can be directly rejected by membrane processes such as reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. The recent development of submerged hybrid membrane systems, such as membrane bioreactors in wastewater treatment, provides alternative technologies for arsenic treatment.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book tackles the critical issue of arsenic contamination in water resources, a significant global threat impacting both developed and developing nations. Arsenic exposure poses severe health risks, including cancer, necessitating innovative solutions that prioritize both effectiveness and environmental responsibility. This book explores the diverse sources of arsenic contamination, from naturally occurring minerals to industrial pollutants, and the severe health impacts of chronic exposure, including cancer and cardiovascular diseases. It also covers the latest advancements in bioremediation and nanotechnology, featuring cutting-edge sustainable arsenic removal technologies that go beyond traditional methods like coagulation and filtration.Divided into 14 chapters, the book addresses topics such as bioremediation using microorganisms and natural plant-based systems, integrated bioremediation technologies, and the application of nanotechnology for enhanced efficiency and affordability. It also outlines the development and use of low-cost adsorptive materials and sustainable adsorbents, providing a comprehensive overview of their strengths, limitations, and future prospects. With a focus on both developed and developing countries, the book examines the current state of arsenic removal methods, the challenges faced, and the innovative solutions being developed. It highlights the importance of building capacity and knowledge sharing for sustainable arsenic management. This book is an essential resource for researchers, environmental scientists, engineers, and policymakers working in the fields of environmental science, water treatment, and public health. It equips readers with a detailed and up-to-date perspective on the technologies and strategies needed to effectively mitigate arsenic pollution.
