In den WarenkorbFirst edition of this landmark publication drawn from the personal diaries, private letters, papers, and revealing interviews of President Harry S. Truman. Quarto, original cloth, errata slip tipped in to front free endpaper, near illustrated with color and black-and-white photographs. In near fine condition. Assembled by journalist William Hillman. Pictures by Alfred Wagg. Accompanied by the original dust jacket laid in with losses. Mr. President was the first publication drawn from the personal diaries, private letters, papers, and candid interviews of Harry S. Truman, published in 1952 while Truman was still in office. Offering an unprecedented look into the mind of a sitting president, it reproduces Truman's own handwritten memoranda and reflections. Harry S. Truman (1884 to 1972), the thirty-third President of the United States, assumed office on the death of Franklin Roosevelt in April 1945 and led the nation through the end of the Second World War, the decision to use the atomic bomb, the founding of the United Nations and NATO, the Marshall Plan, and the Korean War. Plainspoken and famously decisive, he left office in 1953 as one of the most consequential presidents of the twentieth century.…
