Wladyslaw Rymkiewicz: Zulawy, Übersetzung aus dem Polnischen von Rudolf Pabel, Verlag Volk und Welt Berlin, 1. Auflage/1953, 138 Seiten, Karton-Einband mit Leinen-Rücken, Teile des O.Schutzumschlag beigelegt, Schnitt/Vorsatz stark lichtrandig, sonst gut erhalten, Zulawy so heißt der fruchtbare Landstrich um das Weichseldelta, den polnische Bauern im Mittelalter dem Meer abgerungen haben. Hohe Deiche, ein weitverzweigtes Netz von Pumpstationen und unzählige Kanäle geben dieser Landschaft, die unter dem Meeresspiegel liegt, das Gepräge. Die Siedler, die im Herbst 1945 aus allen Gegenden Polens nach Zulawy kamen, fanden jedoch nur eine unabsehbare Wasserwüste vor. Die Deiche waren durchstochen, die Pumpen zerstört, auf den überschwemmten Wiesen verfaulten die Bäume, und die Dörfer waren verödet. Die hitlerische Panzerdivision Hermann Göring" suchte im März 1945, als sie sich unter Druck sowjetischer und polnischer Verbände zurückzog, letzte Zuflucht und Rettung an der Ostseeküste, im Delta zwischen Weichsel und Nogat. Um den Vormarsch der Sowjetarmee aufzuhalten, wurden im Frühjahr 1945 auf Befehl der Obersten Heeresleitung der Hitlerarmee die Schutzdämme gegen das Hochwasser der Weichsel unterhalb Czerwony Budy und Kiezmark, bei Stary Radun, Tudze und am Mühlenkanal unterhalb Tczew durchstochen. Ungefähr 800 Kriegsgefangene verschiedener Nationalitäten, Franzosen, Polen, Sowjetbürger, Engländer und Italiener, die man unter schwerer Bewaffnung dorthin gebracht hatte, wurden zu diesem Vernichtungswerk gezwungen. SS-Leute bewachten sie und trieben sie zur Arbeit an. Im Weichseldelta standen damals rund 140 000 ha, im Gebiet von Zulawy 46 500 ha besten Bodens unter Wasser. Unmittelbar nach Kriegsende begann das polnische Volk mit dem Wiederaufbau der zerstörten technischen Einrichtungen und der Entwässerung und Trockenlegung der überschwemmten und versumpften Gebiete dieses fruchtbaren Landstrichs. Das steht im Mittelpunkt dieses Buches. 3.)
