Leather. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. A smart two volume collection of the works and correspondence of this English Baptist minister. A two volume morocco set, with an illustrated frontispiece of the man in question to volume I. This is the scarce second edition of this work, containing two additional letters. These volumes detail…the life and works of essayist and Baptist minister John Foster, chiefly comprised of his letters but also featuring a biographical overview from John Shepperd. Foster was a noted theologian of his time whose primary dissent with church doctrine involved 'Duration of Future Punishment', a subject treated at length in some of the letters included in the workWith the contemporary owner's inscriptions, 'Alexander C. Ewing with love from his affectionate cousin M, 4th May 1870' to the verso of an endpaper of volume I, and simply 'A C Ewing' on the same page in volume II. In the original morocco binding. Externally smart, with the odd mark to boards, and a small loss of leather to a spine band. A contemporary owner's inscription appears to the verso of a front endpaper of both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright. Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). book.
