This work is a charming recipe book with dishes for all occasions from asparagus rolls and mushroom flan, to boeuf a la mode and caramel ices. Written by Ruth J. Emilie Lowinsky, an English society hostess and food writer. Lowinsky was good friends of British writers friend of Rebecca West and Raymond Mortimer. Illustrated by her husband, Thomas Esmond Lowinsky, an English painter noted primarily for his portraiture, but he also painted fantasy scenes. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor bumping to the extremities and light discolouration to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Charmingly illustrated by the author's husband, the surrealist Thomas Esmond Lowinsky. FFrom the library of Jill Norman, an editor and food writer. Norman began working at Penguin in the early 1960s and, as the only woman, the care of the company's cookery books fell to her. It was her responsibility to expand the cookery titles Penguin produced, and thus began to publish works by Jane Grigson, Claudia Roden, and Alan Davidson.
