Po odnoj iz ego pervykh pes Vechno zhivye byl napisan stsenarij znamenitogo na ves mir filma Mikhaila Kalatozova Letyat zhuravli, poluchivshego v 1958 godu glavnyj priz Kannskogo Mezhdunarodnogo kinofestivalya. Ya by nazval ego proizvedeniya letopisyu rossijskoj zhizni i pokazom russkikh kharakterov. Oleg Tabakov Chelovek kak budto nekonfliktnyj, on byl ochen zhestkim v plane nravstvennykh ponyatij.
