Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. this is the 72 page programme for the 1939 Military Royal Tournament held at Olympia in London in the Summer of 1939, just before the start of the 2nd World War, the programme is 10 inches tall and loosely inserted are two advert leaflets for The Aldershot Army School of Physical Training,… also two original silver gelatin photographs, the programme is in good general condition with some edge wear rubbing, the Aldershot leaflets are noticeably creased with a couple of tears.

In 1966, displays included a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Royal Artillery, a motorcycle stunt show by the Royal Corps of Signals, and a hypothetical battle against two enemy subma…rines carried out by the Royal Navy. The front wrapper illustration shows a member of the Pakistan Frontier Constabulary, dressed in traditional service uniform, featuring the distinctive high-fanned ceremonial kulla (turban) and crossed ammunition bandoliers over a khaki tunic. That year's Tournament, which can be viewed on YouTube, featured a special performance by them. Square octavo (230 x 162 mm). Half-tone photographic illustrations in text; printed on coated paper. Contemporary blue morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, original pictorial wrappers bound in, front board gilt-stamped with royal cypher, turn-ins tooled with foliate design in gilt, marbled endpapers, edges gilt, binder's stamp on front pastedown. A fine copy.
