Transport Command succeeded Ferry Command as the backbone of the RAF's wartime logistical effort, moving aircraft from factories to front lines in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Immediately after WW2, it supported the reorganisation of overseas forces, reconstruction of Western Europe, and the Berlin Airlift. It was radically reduced in the 1950s. This booklet, dated Nov 1945, was written for civilians performing functions deemed to be in the national interest immediately after WW2, when many travel restrictions were still in place: "Your air passage has been approved by an Air Priorities Board, and a seat has been booked for you on a transport aircraft of the Royal Air Force. (it) cannot be furnished to the standard of a civil aircraft. Nevertheless every effort will be made to make your journey as comfortable as possible. All the preliminary arrangements. have been made by the Air Booking Centre. (p1) Your rests on the ground. may not be as long as you would choose for your comfort's sake, but the purpose of travelling with Transport Command is to get to your destination in the shortest possible time." (p8). Contents include Foreword; Air ticket; Documents; Currency regulations; Medical; Baggage; Passenger and freight sections; Safety; Authority of the Captain; and Conclusion.
