Spine and boards show some wear and soiling with a large stain to the upper board which continues to front pastedown. Binding is tight. No dust jacket. Text block is good overall with occasional marks…but minor. Frontis page has large stain to edge as do all portait pages, which also have tissue guards, but images are unaffected largely. All pages are free from notations. Interesting portion of a hand written ink letter pasted to front end-paper appears to be a signature in Spanish? but untranslated as yet. Book Plate of Mary Ford on front paste down. Despite the water staining, this is a fascinating reference source with nice illustrations and plates.

Rebound in purple half morocco, spine with gilt-ruled compartments with black morocco labels, gilt-ruled boards, top…edges gilt. A few small marks to rear cover of vol 2. Leaves are not all uniform in size. A few leaves are out of place and out of sequence: the frontispiece for vol 2 is inserted into vol 1 instead; the plate that is meant to face page 108 instead faces the title page (vol 2). Otherwise a clean set, very good.
