The first two volumes were published in 1956. Generations of scholars researched for nine decades until the last of the 26 volumes could be published in 2010. Thus, Akkadian, the oldest Semitic language, spoken in one of the cradle of humankind and where the foundations of our written communication were laid, has been rescued from oblivion.
