Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Hardcover. 8vo. Published by A. H. Stockwell, Devon, UK. 1976. 338 pgs. Illustrated. First Edition/First Printing. DJ has light shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities. Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. MacLeod Ross, who was a Royal Engineer had been appointed assistant superintendent of design in 1933. He joined Col E M Campbell Clarke, a Royal Artillery officer, the deputy superintendent of design who, in 1938 was promoted to vice-president of the Ordnance Board. MacLeod Ross was a devoted disciple of Clarke, as he makes clear in his book. Clarke was credited with the design of the 25-pounder gun and the range of British anti-tank guns. No mean achievement, even for a gunner although his record on tanks such as A7E1 to A7E3, the Light Tank L4E1 and the Morris armoured car did not redound to his credit. This is an excellent book for someone who is looking for a different perspective on tank design and the intricacies of manufacture and logistics. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.

In den WarenkorbSee his obituary in The Times, 16 June 1987. 1p, 4to. On aged and lightly creased and worn paper. Folded twice, with short closed tears to edges of central horizontal crease. Addressed to 'Dear Hide' and 'Lieutenant G. Hide, R.N.V.R. / 700 Squadron / TWATT.' Signed 'Robert Neville'. He feels 'very guilty' that he did not write to thank Hide 'for the Walrus, which was, of course, an absolute Godsend to me. Sargent could not have been a more delightful or obliging pilot. He made my trip for me.' To make matters worse, he wants to ask Hide for another favour, with regard to the return journey of another visit he has to make to Scapa: on his journey from Edinburgh, he asks if Hide could get him to Donnibristle. 'My reason for wanting to be back here on Thursday is a genuine Service one, and I should be endlessly grateful if you can help me. My address will be: c/o Admiral Commanding, Orkneys and Shetlands.' Zustand: Good. - Original sepia-toned head-and shoulders portrait photo approximately 9-3/4 inches high by 7-3/4 inches wide. Inscribed in the margin below the image "-- With best wishes, / Edward Alsworth Ross." There is some light creasing to the margins of the photo with a few tiny stains to the bottom margin. Good. Edward Alswoth Ross [1866-1951] was an American sociologist and eugenicist and a major figure in early criminology. Rather remarkably, in his last twenty years, he grew out of the disreputable views of his earlier life when he was a believer in eugenics and sterilization and opposed immigration to the point of suggesting that America would do better to turn its guns "upon every vessel bringing Japanese to our shores rather than to permit them to land". In the 1930s he was a supporter of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal program, and from 1940 to 1950 he served as chairman of the national committee of the American Civil Liberties Union.
