It is divided into parts which correspond with the three main approaches to consumer protection. The first discusses non-legal controls such as codes of practice and the control of advertising. The second part examines private law, where consumers must take the initiative to enforce their rights; here the author deals mainly with the different forms of manufacturers' and retailers' liability and the law on consumer credit. The third part of the book, covering public law, analyzes the use of legislation, including licensing, to extend the protection of the consumer.
