In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Spine very slightly darkened, two corners very mildly bumped. J.-H. Rosny was the pseudonym of Joseph Henri Honoré Boex (1856-1940) and his younger brother Séraphin Justin François Boex, pioneers of French science fiction. Rosny aîné's "Reported Missing" was first published as Perdus?: aventures de trois aviateurs français en Allemagne (1916). The translator is probably Major Charles Adrian Stourton Langdale (1874-1960), West Riding Regiment. "The fog had lifted. A pale November sun was beginning to decline towards the rest as the biplane swept across the cloudy sky like a monstrous bird. Three men in her were in the midst of adventure. Two were searching the horizon, the third piloted the frail machine. It was an anxious and critical time. They had been breathing German air since midday. Beneath them lay the enemy world, the hordes of savage foes, close-packed cannon and machine guns; even in the spaces of the sky Aviatiks or Zeppelins might rise and surround the solitary skiff . . .". …

The earlier letter is written to the wife of the publisher Maurice Delamain, concerning an offer Rosny cannot accept, probably concerning a publication, and suggesting to postpone the project: "J'ai voulu examiner toutes mes possibilités avant de vous écrire : je suis enchaîné. Peut-être plus tard [.] pourrions-nous entreprendre quelque chose, car je trouve l'idée assez séduisante". - In the letter from 1937, Rosny congratulates Jacques Chardonne, a writer and publisher at Stock, on his latest novel "Romanesques". - The visiting card of J.-H. Rosny jeune (1859-1948) is addressed to Maurice Delamain or another director at Librairie Stock. The 1937 letter with mourning border. All objects rust stained from a paper clip. - J.-H.
