Poema Les Jardins de Rosemonde Gérard, reconocida poeta y dramaturga francesa, era nieta de un general de Napoleón, Étienne Maurice Gérard. Acompañado de ilustraciones de A. F. Gorguet, reproducidas en facsímil. Les Jardins es toda la infancia tierna y soñadora del señor Edmond Rostand (marido de Rosemond Gérard) evocada por los recuerdos de los lugares donde pasaron sus primeros años. Una flor, un perfume, el calor de una brisa que pasa, el sabor de un fruto maduro, la silueta de un árbol contra el cielo, eso basta para despertar, en el alma de la mujer de hoy, el eco lejano de las alegrías, la melancolía, los sueños de la niña de antaño, en la que ya dormía el refinado artista, vibrando con todas las nobles y dulces emociones. Un ilustrador hábil y seguro de sí mismo sólo tuvo que traducir esta cautivadora poesía literalmente y detalle a detalle, por así decirlo, para devolvernos los sorprendentes retratos de los seis jardines descritos.
