Savinkov byl odnim iz krupnejshikh predstavitelej revolyutsionnogo i zatem kontrrevolyutsionnogo dvizheniya. On rukovodil Boevoj organizatsiej partii eserov, uchastovaval v ubijstve V. Pleve i velikogo knyazya Sergeya Aleksandrovicha. V 1918 godu organizoval antibolshevistskij Soyuz zashchity Rodiny i Svobody, prinimal uchastie v obrazovanii Dobrovolcheskoj armii i pokusheniyakh na rukovoditelej partii bolshevikov. V 1924 godu on nelegalno vernulsya v Rossiyu iz emigratsii v rezultate operatsii OGPU 'Sindikat-2', byl arestovan i pogib v tyurme po ofitsialnoj versii pokonchil zhizn samoubijstvom. 'Kon blednyj' Nr. odno iz glavnykh literaturnykh proizvedenij Savinkova. V osnovu syuzheta legli realnye sobytiya: ubijstvo I. Kalyaevym pod rukovodstvom Savinkova velikogo knyazya Sergeya Aleksandrovicha. Povest byla vpervye opublikovana v 1909 godu i vyzvala rezkuyu kritiku so storony eserov, kotorye sochli obraz glavnogo geroya klevetnicheskim.
