The middle part of the diary recounts a four-month research trip through coastal towns in Queensland to the remote Palmer River, then across to Darwin and Kakadu. To finish on the ruby fields of central Australia. This diary was written while Eric Rolls researched and wrote Flowers and the Wide Sea, a human history of the Chinese in Australia. (book flap).
