Hardcover. Zustand: fien. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: near fine. First edition. First printing. Hardcover, 107 pp. Decorative illustrations by Carolyn Huff Kinsey. A fine, fresh example in crisp dust jacket with a bit of toning to the spine. A free translation of the ancient Greek tragedy "Hippolytus" by Euripides in which Rollins applies modern idiom and psychological insights to the legant tale. In Euripides version of the legend, Hippolytus angers Aphrodite after swearing chastity and rejecting her love in favor of Artemis. The goddess revenges herself by making his stepmother, Phaedra, fall in love with him. When her love is not returned, she commits suicide and leaves a note saying Hippolytus raped her. His father, Theseus, curses him using one of three wished granted to him by Poseidon. With Hippolytus near death, the two reconcile after Artemis reveals the lie, but Hippolytus dies.
