He was a member of the Communist party, and wrote for The Daily Worker. He published his first book of poems, *To My Contemporaries,* in 1936. Edwin Rolfe was blacklisted in 1947, and spent much of the rest of his life struggling against McCarthyism, reflected in his poems with anti-American sentiment. He died in 1954.
