Staying with the current theme of Railroads, I am pleased to offer another lovely and somewhat scarce book, this one titled: Kinsey Photographer Volume Three the Locomotive Portraits…, by Dave Bohn and Rodolfo Petschek, with essays by John T. Labbe. Apparently, the Kinsey s, husband Darius and wife, Tabitha May spent 50 years (1890-1940) photographing and printing photo of the railroad industry in the Pacific Northwest. Their stash of negatives, discovered decades later, some of which are here re-published for all you enthusiasts (and it is not hard to see how one becomes a fan of the steam locomotives). This large, oblong hard cover book (13 ¼ x 10 ½ inches, 144 pages) was published by Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers of New York, dated 1984, and a possible First Printing if I am reading the coding on the copyright page correctly. The book is bound in a brownish purple paper covered boards with silver gilt titles on cover and spine; it is protected by a pictorial dust jacket. This book is very well illustrated and includes 41 superb photographs of the logging industry s steam locomotives, historical essays by John Labbe on each locomotive and the logging operation(s) it served, and excerpts from conversations with some of the oldtime engineers, firemen, and brakemen. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket has some sort of a streak across it horizontally as if something narrow skidded across it (please see the photos although doubtless, this issue won t show well). There is some wear or rubbing to the bottom edge of the front hard cover, less so on the rear, hardly noticeable and probably just normal shelf wear. Otherwise, the hard covers are clean and bright. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and photo plates are neat and clean throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
