Revised First Draft script for the 1967 film. Laid in is a Call Sheet from the production, dated Tuesday, November 29, 1966. Based on John Ball's 1965 novel. An African American police detective from Philadelphia is recruited to help solve a murder in a small, bigoted Mississippi town. Winner of five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor for Rod Steiger, nominated for two others. After the success of the film version, the characters were developed further for a police procedural television series in 1988, developed by James Lee Barrett, and starring Carroll O'Connor and Howard Rollins, which aired on NBC, then CBS, from 1988 to 1995. Set in the fictional town of Sparta, Mississippi, and shot largely on location in Illinois. Poitier insisted the movie be filmed in the North because of a 1964 incident in Mississippi, in which he and Harry Belafonte had been run off the road and almost killed by Klansmen while in the state to support the SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee). Two vintage studio still photographs from the set of the 1964 film, both showing director Sidney Lumet on location in New York City. From the collection of Joel Finler Based on the 1961 novel. A powerful, brooding film in which Rod Steiger stars as a Jewish pawnbroker in Harlem, haunted by his memories of World War II Nazi concentration camps. One of the first Hollywood films to dramatize the psychological impact of concentration camps, and the first to take the point of view of a Holocaust survivor. The film met with controversy, as it was the first major American release to feature female nudity. Because the nudity was non-exploitative, it passed the Production Code (still in existence), though interestingly this milestone came near the end of the Production Code era. Set in New York, and shot there on location. Much of the filming took place on Park Avenue in Harlem, where the pawnbroker shop was set at 1642 Park Avenue, near the intersection of Park Avenue and 116th Street. Scenes were also filmed in Connecticut, Jericho, New York, and Lincoln Center (with both interior and exterior shots of the Lincoln Towers apartments, which were new at the time). 10 x 8 inches. Near Fine. National Film Registry.

Collection of 104 vintage studio still photographs from the 1962 film including some great in-character photographs and head shots from Ben Gazzara, Sammy Davis Jr., Broderick Crawford, Vincent Price, Roland LaStarza, Timothy Carey, Ray Walston and others, also includes 5 photographs of Gazzara with author John Resko and one head shot of Resko. Mimeo snipes on the verso of the majority of photographs. "Convicts 4," here under the working title, and title of Resko's 1956 autobiography upon which the film was loosely based, Reprive. Dalton Trumbo wrote and directed with Millard Kaufman as his "front" (as Trumbo was still blacklisted at the time) which Kaufman had done before for Trumbo, most notably for the 1950 Film Noir classic Gun Crazy. John Resko (Gazzara) is convicted of killing a store owner and sentenced to life in prison. While in prison, he ignites a passion for art, an activity that leads to a transformation in his character. Featuring a great supporting cast which includes, among others, Sammy Davis Jr., Rod Steiger, Vincent Price, Ray Walson, Jack Albertson, Timothy Carey, pop singer Dodie Stevens and boxer Roland La Starza. Shot on location in Folsom Prison in California. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine, some light edgewear and light curling, 2 with creasing.

Vintage borderless reference photograph of cast and crew members filming on location for the 1965 film. Printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso, along with the stamp of photographer Federico Grau. Based on Boris Pasternak's controversial, Nobel Prize-winning 1957 novel, following a married physician whose life is irreversibly changed by the Russian Revolution and resulting Civil War. Nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning five, including Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography. Pasternak's novel was widely banned in the Soviet Union due to its perceived criticism of the Soviet government, forcing director David Lean to begin filming on location in Spain-chosen in large part as a result of his positive experiences filming "Lawrence of Arabia" there several years prior, as well as the promise of snow. The film was shot over ten months, in Soria and Aragon, and at the Aldeadavila Dam, with a large-scale Moscow set built outside of Madrid, as documented throughout the archive. An unseasonably warm winter in Spain obligated production to head to Finland and Canada in the final months of shooting, in order to obtain a sufficiently wintry backdrop for landscape scenes. Shot on location throughout Spain, Finland, and Canada. 10 x 8 inches. Very Good plus, lightly worn at the corners.

The sister film to "Dr. Strangelove," and in the eyes of many, just as much a masterpiece of exquisitely wrought black humor. Set and shot on location in Hollywood. 8 x 10 inches. Original British quad poster for the 1957 British film noir A low budget British film noir that brought Rod Steiger across the ocean in order to put his formidable character acting skills into what became a critically praised film. Shot in Spain (but represented as Mexico), "Across the Bridge" expands on Graham Greene's short story, bringing more specifics to the author's intentionally empirical outline. Steiger plays a crooked businessman on the run who steals a man's passport in order to hide out in Mexico, only to discover that the passport belongs to a wanted political assassin. 30 x 40 inches. Archive of 14 original reference photographs taken on the set of the 1965 film, and two original contact sheets with 24 images of cast and crew members at what appears to be a wrap party. Several photographs with manuscript ink annotations to the verso identifying figures in the images. One photograph date-stamped APR 27 1964, inscribed on the recto by uncredited location manager Howard "Dutch" Horton to production supervisor John Palmer, and another photograph inscribed to Palmer from an unknown crew member in manuscript ink annotation to the verso. From the collection of John Palmer. Included with the collection is a brief typescript note signed from publicist Phil Gersdorf to Palmer, gifting Palmer the contact sheets. The archive includes eleven photographs of cast and crew members between takes on the Moscow set, several shots featuring Palmer and director David Lean during a parade scene, with crowds of extras in Soviet militia garb in the background. The Moscow photographs in particular highlight the intricate set and costume design elements which went into constructing the mock city, including several striking images of parade participants holding huge portraits of Soviet officials. An unusual addition to the collection is a photograph of Palmer in conversation with noted Austrian-American director Fred Zinnemann, who collaborated with actor Omar Sharif in "Behold a Pale Horse" earlier in 1964. Shot on location throughout Spain, Finland, and Canada. Photographs and contact sheets varying sizes. All materials generally Very Good plus, several photographs with moderate toning.
