Based on the 1950 novel of the same name by Henry Morton Robinson, detailing the life of a young American priest who must face numerous moral dilemmas, the rise of Nazis, and growing bigotry while he rises into power within the church. The story is based in part on the career of Francis Joseph Cardinal Spellman, archbishop of New York (1939-1967). Shot on location in Boston. 10 x 8 inches. Near Fine.

On Jacques Saurin (Source: York University website): Jacques Saurin (1677-1730) was widely regarded for his eloquence in the pulpit. Born in France to Protestant parents, he was ordained a Catholic priest before converting to the Protestant (and Calvinistic) Reformed Church of France. His sermons were translated into English and printed widely in the United States throughout the early-nineteenth century.

This overview of their first exhibition includes photographs by leading figures including Alfred Stieglitz, James Craig Annan and Rudolf Eickemeyer Jr, and numerous others.
